HDB BTO application guide: ballots, ceilings and flat types

Build-To-Order (BTO) projects are sold in launches a few times a year. You apply online during the window, and projects with more demand than units are allocated by a computer ballot.

Ballot position

Your queue number decides which flat you can pick. Family priority schemes, first-time buyer status and parenthood quotas all affect your odds, so apply under the scheme you genuinely qualify for.

Choosing a flat type

2-room Flexi suits smaller households and buyers who want a lower price. 4-room is the most common choice for couples with children, and 5-room gives the most room for the same lease terms.

After you get the letter

You will be asked to attend a flat selection appointment, sign the lease agreement, and then wait for completion. Budget for stamp duty, legal fees, and the deposit for the flat you selected.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I give up a BTO flat after selection?

Giving up a flat after you have been given a selection slot can affect your eligibility for future applications, so treat the appointment as a final decision.
